The cross section of an elastic segment must be proportioned so that a permanent deformation of the segment itself does not occur during assembly. The radial thickness of the segment must, therefore, be appropriately sized.

The axial height or thickness is dimensioned according to the type of machine, as well as the material constituting the piston and the requirements of thermal conductivity. Machines with horizontal cylinders must have segments higher than those with vertical cylinders.

In light alloy pistons. the ratio between the height and the radial thickness must be such as to reduce as much as possible the specific pressure on the grooves.

Custom Design of Piston Segments

The dimensions and tolerances on the dimensions of the elastic segments have been defined by DIN standards drawn up for each use and in relation to the type of cut and shape. If construction-related reasons force us to deviate from the aforementioned standards, we are at the disposal of the clientele to establish the most appropriate type and the dimensions best suited for specific use.
